I'll be writing about it a bit along the way and taking what I expect will be a number of rank amateur photographs to go along with. A sweeping panoramic vista, beneath my tablet lens, usually becomes just a ridge with some trees.
The Ginko Petrified Forest and Grand Coulee Dam are Day 1. Then a long haul through the Cour d'Alene and Lolo National Forests into Butte, passing around six other national forests on the way. We'll have an early stop at Lewis and Clark Caverns and then head into Yellowstone for a stay at Old Faithful followed by a couple of nights at Yellowstone Lake. Then out through Grand Teton National Park for a short stop at Craters of the Moon National Park. A lot of driving and landscape later and we'll be back home via Mt. Rainier National Park.
Not counting traffic it's going to be 36 hours in a car seat. Also not counting any of the driving around Yellowstone which is going to be 16-20 more.
The idea is to return sunburned and exhausted, hopefully still on speaking terms, with a load of lifetime memories and photos special only to us because they bring back the places we went, the things we did and the sights that we saw. We'll forget about the car seat soon enough.
